All is now set for the Safer Internet Day 2017 celebrations. Safer Internet Day 2017 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday 7th February with the slogan ‘Be the change: Unite for a better internet’.
Coordinated in the Delta State Nigeria by ICT Beyond Borders TV the celebration sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.
ICT Beyond Borders through partnership with The UK Safer Internet Centre – a partnership of three leading charities; Childnet, the South West Grid for Learning and the Internet Watch Foundation – provide resources for children, schools and families, and tools for getting involved at the event
Globally, Safer Internet Day is celebrated in over a hundred countries, coordinated by the joint Insafe/INHOPE network, with the support of the European Commission, and national Safer Internet Centres across Europe.
The day offers the opportunity to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community. It calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers, and wider, to join together in helping to create a better internet.
Speaking on the celebrations for this year, Paul Ekwutoziam -President of ICT Beyond Borders TV informed that a series of activities to celebrate SID 2017 has been mapped out already. He said this year we will be hosting the first ever Discourse on Creating a Safer and Better internet for young people. A programme which will be aired on local TV networks in the State will pay host to parents, carers, young children in secondary schools, security agencies, religious organizations and policy makers in the technology and educational sector. Other activities expected are the Social media campaign- #giveasmile, Youth Photo Campaign as well as distribution of FREE resources to young people both online and offline.
